New Dean for Grahamstown Cathedral

Thabo Makgoba, Anglican Bishop of Grahamstown, has announced the appointment of Andrew Hunter, at present Rector of Hout Bay, as the next Dean of Grahamstown Cathedral, from 1 January 2008.

Andrew Hunter was born in 1957 in Pietermaritzburg. He matriculated at Westerford High School in Cape Town, and has a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Cape Town. His theological education took place in Grahamstown at St Paul's College. He has been Rector of the Parish of St. Peter the Fisherman, Hout Bay, since August 2002, and a Canon of St. George’s Cathedral since September 2002. His previous experience in parish ministry includes Edgemead, Robertson, Kaya Mundi and Bonteheuwel, all in the Diocese of Cape Town. Since February 2005 he has been fulfilling the role of Archdeacon of the Waterfront.

His wife Claire is also a priest. She has been working as a lecturer in New Testament and as an assistant at St. Peter’s, and they have two daughters aged 11 and 9.
